What "no warranty" means in practice

Both licenses already exclude warranties and limit liability (Apache-2.0 sections 7 and 8, CC BY 4.0 section 5). For an alpha networking SDK, that has concrete consequences:

  • Test it on your own users' networks. Freehop's developer ran simulated-NAT tests in a home lab; this was not independent lab testing. Physical home routers, carrier networks, corporate networks and mobile browsers are not yet verified.
  • There is no service level. Nobody guarantees that a gate, a public tracker, a gateway or a host node is available, or that a call connects.
  • Direct paths expose network addresses to other participants. Say so in your privacy information.
  • Gateways and host nodes spend someone's bandwidth. If your users run them, make it their informed choice.
  • You are responsible for your deployment: your backend's authentication, how you deliver tickets, your gate's configuration and your users' data.

  • The gate uses ws (MIT License).
  • The browser client has no runtime dependencies, and the gateway uses only Node.js built-ins.
